Matthew in Dublin – Museum of Literature Ireland – MoLI

On a Friday afternoon in November I took a trip to MoLI, Museum of Literature Ireland, and it was honestly a brilliant day out.

The Museum is located in the historic UCD Newman House. It was super easy to get there as it is on St. Stephenā€™s Green in the heart of Dublin city.

I wandered around the leafy park before coming out of the park gates and was pleasantly surprised by the beautiful museum building.

I went up the stairs into the building and as I was early for my tour, I had a potter around the ground floor.

The buildingā€™s interior was really lovely with all of the original features still in great condition. All the information was easy to understand and the exhibits flowed well throughout the experience.

After I had a quick look around my guided tour began. My tour guide was super knowledgeable and thought provoking, and he helped me gain a greater knowledge and understanding of Ireland’s literary past.

The museum contained information about famous Irish poets such as Seamus Heaney, Oscar Wilde and of course James Joyce, who had his own in depth exhibit, containing some of his original notes and a first edition copy of Ulysses.

Honestly I could have spent hours there. As well as the museum, the house also boasts a beautiful garden area, where you can sit and drink your tea from the wonderful museum cafe.

Overall, I had an amazing experience and the museum makes for a great day out for people of any age.Ā
