Hannah in Dublin-Glasnevin Cemetery Timeline Event
On Thursday, I got the opportunity to attend a very special event, the Glasnevin Cemetery Timeline update.
Glasnevin Cemetery view from the Visitor Centre
If you’ve never had the pleasure of visiting the Glasnevin Cemetery, there is a visitor’s centre that showcases the bigger names, and the smaller names, buried or cremated in the cemetery. All in the format of long timeline.
Exhibition
We all know the tours and walks we can take there, but did you know that there is a digital and interactive exhibit that you can experience, too?
Interactive Timeline
Upstairs in the visitor’s centre, we celebrated adding 40 new names onto the timeline, with their family and friends there to commemorate and walk through their lives. All while overlooking the gorgeous grounds of the National Cemetery of Ireland
With music, food, and wine, we listened to members of the Dublin Cemeteries Trust, as well as Meghan Hanlon, the curator behind the new additions, talk through their happy moments and poignant memories working with the loved ones on this new Timeline.
We then got the opportunity to interact with the timeline ourselves, learning more about the people added, and to connect to Ireland’s history through the lives that shaped it.
Live music
If you ever get the chance to visit Glasnevin Cemetery, the Timeline is a great way to connect to Dublin’s history!
